LONG EXPOSURE HAND STUDY

HU 2633 Introduction to Digital Media

This was my final project for the Spring 2014 HU 2633 Introduction to Digital Media course. For this project, I wanted to mix the simplicity of photographing the hand with the complexity of shooting photos with a long exposure.

This project was also a slight rebellion against shooting photography manually. At times, I felt like the camera had a mind of its own. Comparing the camera to a feral animal in my final paper on the project, I challenged the camera to be free and go wild with the settings that I gave it. These photos are what resulted from that challenge.

For this, I used a Nikon D40, and I edited the photos using Adobe Photoshop. As well as experimenting with shooting long exposure photography, I also experimented with DIY effects on the lens. In some photos, you can see the plastic wrap that I used as a texture.
